If your home has a timber floor it is probably much colder in the winter than it needs to be. Your floor is in contact with the coldest air both inside and outside your home.

The under-floor space can be a very cold windy place.

Inside, the warmest of your winter heating floats to the ceiling leaving the coolest air on the floor.

Timber floors can look beautiful. They can also feel good when they significantly add to your winter warmth with the right insulation.

10 to 20% of your heating can be lost through your floor. Almost all timber floors have no insulation fitted below them and this situation is worsened if the sub-floor area is not enclosed. Floor coverings also play a small part.

If there is adequate access to the under-floor, insulation can be added. In cold climates this makes a significant difference to winter warmth.

If you have an elevated floor such as a pole home, under-floor insulation can also add to summer comfort.
