Cycling to break the Cycle

Creating a better future

In 2022 Maurice was cycling ‘Around the Bay’ in Victoria to help break the cycle with kids. Maurice said, “I’m riding because 1 in 6 Australian kids are growing up in disadvantaged homes, where even the basics in life are hard to come by.” He sustained the fundraise in favour of the Smith Family and many of you supported him becoming sponsors.

There is a devastating social cycle happening in Australia. Over 3 million people in Australia live in poverty. Over 1.2 million are under the age of 24 and 785.000 are school age children. (source: Smith Family)

The 2022 fundraiser for the Smith Family run a fantastic program “Learning for Life” that supports children and young people to participate more fully in their education throughout their schooling and tertiary years.” Your contribution was fundamental to making a difference in helping with the education of disadvantaged children.

This year, in 2023, Maurice is cycling “Around the Bay” again and he will be supporting the fundraising for the Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision  to discover cures for Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes.

Every 3 days, an Australian is diagnosed with a Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome. Distressingly, most of them are children and young adults, and 50% will not survive. Thousands more are living with ongoing complex health issues.

About this noble cause, Maurice says “My vision is a brighter future for patients living with Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes. By supporting my ride, you’re helping power the incredible research that will unlock better treatments and cures for people living with Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes and ensure they can access the support they need. Please support me to reach my donation goal and together, we will #FightLikeMaddie!”
